Val Verzasca: Brione to Sonogno via the Val d'Osola, Bocchetta di Mugaia and Val Redorta 20-21.08.2024

This was an epic hike that I wanted to do for a few years now but was always a little hesitant about doing it by myself because the descent, 1600 meters, was slightly over my daily limit and if you have an accident up there, you're fu*%ed, because there's no mobile connection.
So when my wife said to me "we have two days free together, why don't we do that hike?", I was like, yes, let's do it! I still had some doubts, but, we would be together for two whole days, just us by ourselves, and no kids, no one, nobody! Let's go...into the wild.
The first day we hiked up to Rifiugo Sambuco which was quite easy, around 16km distance and 1250 meters in elevation.
We had the hut all to ourselves which was quite special.
The morning after left at around 07.00 and did the 600 m hike to Bocchetta di Mugaia in a couple of hours. It was actually quite tough because there was a very strong wind blowing down from the top of the mountains and it was also a little cold. At the top I was contemplating putting on my gloves!
The 1600 m descent to Sonogno was never ending and the more we descended the higher the temperature rose. It was hard work but we did it and celebrated with a nice cold beer.
